Frequently Asked Questions
All our Therapists are highly trained, professionally qualified and experienced experts in their chosen field and adhere to a strict code of ethics and conduct. They are members of at least one professional organisation meaning they all hold professional insurance, commit to ongoing training and development as well as regular supervision to adhere to industry standards. Visit our ‘About Us’ webpage to find out more about the professional organisations we belong to.
No, currently there is no official regulatory body for Hypnotherapists to register with (the equivalent of say the ‘FCA’ and ‘PRA’ for Banks and ‘Gas Safe Register’ for Plumbers). However, all professionally trained and qualified, reputable Hypnotherapists are members of at least one professional organisation.
The CNCH is a government backed organisation that was set up to regulate certain complementary therapies. It is a ‘Voluntary Self-Regulation Register’ that Complementary Health Practitioners can join if they wish. Hypnotherapy was accepted onto this register back in December 2010 and all our Therapists have been registered members ever since.
Its primary purpose is to protect the public and guide them towards Therapists who are professionally trained and qualified. The Department of Health recommends that you consult with someone who is CNHC registered as these Therapists set the benchmark for national standards of excellence and safety and usually belong to at least one other reputable, professional organisation. This means they adhere to a strict code of ethics and conduct as well as those stipulated by the CNHC.
All our Therapists are members of ‘The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)’. This means that we regularly receive referrals from GPs, Hospitals, Private Healthcare Providers and Insurance Companies.
All our clients are guaranteed strict confidentiality, and all client notes and records are kept secure and confidential at all times. We are compliant under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998. For further information, please visit the Information Commissioner’s Office website.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and the Hypnotherapist only guides the client into the hypnotic state. The exceptions are: people who are educationally subnormal or suffering from senility, very young children, hard drug-addicts, and anybody under the influence of large amounts of alcohol.
Yes, it is totally safe to be hypnotised when you are taking medication. We go in and out of hypnosis on a daily basis anyway; just before we wake up, just before we go to sleep, when we are driving, reading, watching television etc.
Yes, it is a completely safe and natural process. When we feel it is appropriate, we teach our clients how to practise self-hypnosis. It very much depends on the client and the problem we are working with. Self-hypnosis is an excellent skill to learn, as it can really help with many things including managing stress levels, increasing self-confidence, motivation and energy. Please let us know if you would like to be taught this valuable skill.
There are many different methods that can be used, e.g. Swinging Pendulum, Strobe Lights, Rotating Spirals etc. However, the most common is by Voice Induction, and this is the method that we prefer to use. Usually, we speak in a slow, soothing way in order to guide our client into hypnosis, so that we can work directly with their subconscious mind. We will often read from a script when we do this part of the session. There is no special way of speaking, no incantations or magical words.

No, not at all. It is a totally safe and natural state of mind that we go in and out of on a daily basis when reading, watching television, driving etc. Even if you had the misfortune to fall into the hands of a non-trained or poorly trained operator, nothing serious could happen to you.
No, no more than any other form of medicine, complementary or orthodox. A responsible Therapist will soon detect when it is not going to work, and discharge that client so that he can seek the help he requires elsewhere. This is important, as it may just be that the ‘client/therapist mix’ is not as good as it could be, and another Hypnotherapist may be able to help the client achieve the desired results. This is also why the ‘Free Initial Consultation’ is so important, as this is the time when the client and therapist can decide if they will be able to work well together. If we feel that this isn’t the case, then we will refer you on before you incur any costs.
It is also important to understand that the therapy will only be successful if the client genuinely wants to change. Hypnotherapists cannot create the commitment and motivation in their clients, as they do not have any power or control over them, and are only working with them to help them overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals.
Theoretically, it is a look back to a lifetime experienced earlier in history. This can be thousands of years earlier, or maybe only a short while back, just before the current life-span began. It is claimed that there is a therapeutic value in such experiences, in that they may account for certain psychological difficulties in an individual’s current life. Numerous attempts have been made to prove the validity of various PLRs, but this has never been achieved – there has always been the possibility of the experience being nothing more than the recall of a long forgotten memory from childhood in THIS LIFE. Many experimenters go to great lengths to point out that they DO NOT CLAIM that a PLR is evidence of a previous existence for the individual concerned, only an awareness of a set of circumstances that occurred before that individual was born.
This first meeting gives you the opportunity to meet us in person to see if you feel comfortable talking to us. It is just an informal chat so that we can assess whether we feel we can definitely help you, and the best way for us to work together. No hypnosis is used during this initial meeting.
The ‘Free Initial Consultation’ can last anything from ten minutes up to forty five minutes depending on whether we feel we can work with you to help you achieve your goals.
